The Lady Wildcats drew a split in their two games against Mogollon last week, then swept both games of a doubleheader against Valley Sanders on Wednesday to complete the regular softball season. Those three wins were enough to send Joseph City to the state tournament as the 19th seed to face 14th seeded Miami in an opening round game at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, at the Rose Mofford Softball Complex in Phoenix. With a win the Cats would advance to the second round, where third ranked Tanque Verde, which received a first round bye, would be their opponent at 4 p.m. the following day.
Playing in Heber on Monday of last week, Joseph City easily got past the Mustangs with a 16-4 final.
Brandi Cline went three for five with a home run and scored twice. Savannah Baer went three for five with two RBIs and scored twice. Kymber Flake was zero for one, but reached once on an error and later scored. Sharon Larsen went zero for five, but drew two walks and scored a run. Searra Hansen went two for five with a stolen base and scored twice. Sierra Johnstun went two for five and scored a run. Sadie Tuckfield was four for four with two doubles, four RBIs and scored two runs. Krista Edwards went four for five with two doubles, an RBI and scored three times. Taylor Hill went one for five with an RBI and scored a run.
Hosting Mogollon on Tuesday, the Mustangs extracted a bit of reveng, ruining the Wildcats’ final home game by defeating them City 23-15.
Joseph City traveled to Valley on Wednesday, winning game one of the doubleheader 18-4, then taking the second game 24-20.
