Snowflake fans saw both their baseball and softball teams’ season come to a close in their first state tournament action. Playing in Surprise on April 30 the baseball team lost a heartbreaker to Page 1-0 in a pitchers duel.
The 14th seeded Sand Devils scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the second and held 18th ranked Snowflake scoreless throughout to get the win.
Braccin Tanner pitched extremely well allowing just two hits but that effort was wasted, as Page’s pitcher was equally tough scattering just five hits to the Lobos.
Twenty-seven Lobo batters went to the plate but only five came away with a hit. Seven struck out and two were walked by winning pitcher Carson Wright from Page. The Sand Devils lost to Fountain Hills in the second round. The baseball team wraps the season with an overall power point mark of 9-7.
The seventh seeded Lady Lobos earned a first round bye and didn’t play until Friday where they met up with a tough River Valley team. After Snowflake held an early 1-0 lead River Valley scored four runs in the second, then added one more in each the third and fourth innings to lead 6-3.
In the sixth they tacked on two more runs, then iced the game with three runs in the top of the seventh.
Snowflake finished with just five hits and made three errors. The Lady Lobos completed their season with an overall power point mark of 12 wins against only six losses.
Page went on to lose to Payson in the quarterfinal round.
