Elizabeth Mildred (Kartchner) Rhoton, 93, entered into rest on Saturday, May 18, 2013, in Winslow. Funeral services were held May 21 at the Winslow Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial was in Shumway Cemetery.
Mildred was born Aug. 30, 1919, in Taylor.
She began working in a grocery store at the tender age of nine years old and had worked in Winslow most of her life. She worked at Central Drug, Douglas Food Store and was a cashier at Babbitt’s for 22 years. She became a businesswoman when she and her husband purchased Winslow Photo Supply between 1959 and 1960, and was in business serving Winslow for several years.
Mrs. Rhoton belonged to the Emblem Club and Rebekahs. She also was certified to teach genealogy and instructed classes for Northland Pioneer College for seven years. She was classified as an outstanding teacher. She had also been very involved in the LDS church in Winslow, and had volunteered her time with many projects and activities in the Winslow community.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Kay Rhoton McLaws (John); 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Byrtle Vernon Kartchner; sister, Zelma DeVilleneuve; brother, Sheldon McCleve Kartchner; brother, Lynwood Hasting Kartchner; sister, Etta Ruth Kartchner; sister, Georgianna Kartchner Kelly; and sister, Fern H. Kartchner O’Neil.
