The Holbrook football team traveled to Monument Valley recently to compete in a 7 on 7 passing tournament.
The tournament consisted of five rounds of playing teams in pool play, then the teams were seeded for a single elimination tournament. Holbrook went 5-0 in the pool play and went into the tournament seeded No. 1.
The squad had a first round bye, then played Navajo Prep in the second round. After defeating Navajo Prep, Holbrook played Miyamura, a 4A school from New Mexico, in the final four. Holbrook lost in the final five seconds and was knocked out of the tournament, finishing with a 6-1 record.
“I saw some really great things and the kids had a wonderful learning experience,” said Coach John Bokker. “We were down in one of our games 20-8 with eight minutes left and we came back and won 24-20. That was an impressive thing to see.
“The guys played hard and we ended up with some much needed experience.”
