Cyclists from throughout the region will be helping Northland Pioneer College raise funds for student scholarships by participating in Pedal the Petrified on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Riders will tour Petrified Forest National Park east of Holbrook in either a 60-mile round-trip ride or 36-mile one-way ride to Rainbow Forest, with transportation provided back to the starting point at the park’s north entrance. The longer ride departs at 7 a.m., with the second flight leaving at 7:30 a.m.
The $40 registration fee covers the park entrance fee, event T-shirt, metal water bottle, rider lanyard/passport and drawstring bag. The event is limited to 100 riders, so register early.
Riders will get passport stamps at various scenic points throughout the park, making them eligible for a prize drawing at the conclusion of the ride.
Pedal the Petrified is part of NPC’s 40th anniversary celebration and kicks off fund-raising for $40,000 in scholarships for NPC students. Additional donations can be made online directly to the scholarship fund. Another option is to obtain rider sponsorships, at 50 cents per mile, for the fund.
Registration forms, online payment and more information are available at www.npc.edu/pedal4scholarships, or by contacting Debra Fisher by phone at 1-800-266-7845, ext. 6235, or by e-mail at debra.fisher@npc.edu.
