Kathryn “Kay” Harris, 74, formerly of Holbrook, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Carriage House in Snowflake. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 5, at the Holbrook Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with the funeral beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Holbrook Cemetery.
Kay was born on July 19, 1938, in Holbrook to Ralph Marion Harris and Helen Fay Randall Harris.
During her childhood years she attended Holbrook Public Schools and graduated from Holbrook High School in 1957. She participated in the Drum and Bugle Corps and was the head cheerleader. She loved and participated in all sports.
After she graduated from high school, she moved to Tempe and worked at Arizona State University in the records department. Throughout her working career she worked as a secretary in a business setting for various companies, but her favorite job was working with children in the Cartwright Elementary School District in Phoenix.
From a marriage union, her son Brad was born in 1964. He was the light of her life and the twinkle in her eyes! No matter what hobbies or interests Brad developed over the years, his mom was his greatest cheerleader. They had an amazing bond and a very loving mother/son relationship.
Kay loved spending time in the mountains, camping and fishing. She enjoyed doing crafts and watching movies, and spending time with her family.
She was a lifelong member of the LDS church, serving in many callings, including Relief Society presidency and Young Women, but her greatest calling was working as Primary President with the children. She had such a beautiful way of making everyone feel special and loved, and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Survivors include her Mother, Fay Harris Stratton; her son, Brad Harris; her sisters, Marian (Keith) DeWitt and Marjory (Dennis) Austin; and her brother, Monty (Joy) Harris.
