Leona V. Pickens, 99, of Snowflake passed away of natural causes on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Carriage House in Snowflake. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 8, at the Snowflake Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ninth South Second Street. There will be a visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
She was born on March 11, 1914, in Show Low to Charles Spencer and Leona Burke, the fourth of nine children.
In 1981 she returned to Arizona, living the remainder of her life in Snowflake.
Leona was a person of many talents, including painting, photography, needlework and sewing.
She was a lifelong member of the LDS church.
Survivors include her four children, Coy L. Pickens, Lana C. Pickens, Milton D. Pickens and Maurice E. Pickens; seven grandchildren, Aimee and Trenton (children of Coy), Gabriel and Alexander (children of Milton), and Pamela, Celeste and Rebecca (children of Maurice); her loving niece, Thea (Leonard) Hudson, and their seven children, who considered her their grandmother.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to White Mountain Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1975, Lakeside, Ariz. 85929.
