As part of the Sanders bridge reconstruction project on Interstate 40 there will be short closures on the highway beginning Sunday, July 28, to install new bridge girders over the freeway.
Intermittent closures of I-40 are scheduled from late Sunday night, July 28, through early Wednesday morning, July 31. The 20-minute closures will be as follows:
* Sunday, July 28, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., westbound only.
* Monday, July 29, 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., westbound only.
* Monday, July 29, 2 to 6 a.m., eastbound only.
* Tuesday, July 30, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. eastbound only.
Because of the complexity of installing the bridge girders, exact closure times are not known. Police officers will be present to assist with the closures, and motorists should anticipate slowing or stopped traffic around the construction area. Also, traffic lanes will be narrowed and the speed limit will be reduced through the work zone.
