Loren Blair Mileham, 69, of Winslow passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Flagstaff Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. At his request there will be no service. His remains will proudly rest at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix.
He was born to Benjamin Mileham and Wilma Blair Mileham on July 20, 1943, at the Winslow Maternity Hospital.
Loren joined the Navy in 1961 and was stationed at the San Diego Naval Hospital, where he trained and worked as a hospital corpsman. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Winslow, where he met his wife and lifelong partner, Linda Tate. The two were married in Las Vegas in 1966. Following in his grandfather’s footsteps he went to barber school, and owned and operated Loren’s Barber Shop in Winslow for 35 years. During this time he also worked for the ATSF Railroad as a switchman, conductor and
brakeman until 1988.
He loved any excuse to be in the mountains or at a lake, whether it was hunting or fishing. He spent time teaching his children and grandchildren about the outdoors, and how to get a big buck or catch a trout. He taught them all the importance of the Constitution and love of country. His love of history and our founding fathers led to an extensive library of books. His stories of past adventures left the grand-kids rolling on the floor laughing. His sense of humor and smile endured to the end. He was devoted to his children, grandchildren and a special great-grandson, and he loved them all dearly.
Loren was a member of Elks Lodge No. 536 of Winslow, United Transportation Union Local 113 and the National Association of Barbers, and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife Linda of 47 years; five children, Lori Gregory (Tom Obrien) of Phoenix,
Benjamin (Cathy) Mileham of Belen, N.M., and Mark Mileham, Melissa (Ron) Fredericks and Jordan Lynn, all of Winslow; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Mileham (Dustin Cole), Chelsea Delgado (Zach Leonard), Justin Mileham, Eric and Brian Gregory, Cristian Delgado, Cierra Delgado, Kiersten Mileham, and Brianne and Jeffery Barker; and his great-grandson, Braedyn Cole.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilma Blair and Benjamin Mileham.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
