Construction of Phase I of a new 9,300-sq. ft. building that will house new medical, kitchen and laundry areas adjacent to the current Navajo County Jail in Holbrook is well underway. The new kitchen and laundry facilities are expected to be completed in September, and once those are operating, Phase II of the construction will begin. That phase calls for the existing laundry, kitchen and booking facilities to be demolished.
Phase III will then commence with the demolished area to be rebuilt to house a new booking area that will allow transport officers closer access to the facility with covered parking. That construction is anticipated to reach completion in spring 2014.
Another part of Phase 1 includes the construction of a new medical facility that is expected to be complete sometime in October. The new medical facility will house up to 12 patients with a separate room for inmates with communicable diseases and allow for easier ambulance access. The new facility will also have a doctor’s office and dental office that will allow physicians to see patients at the jail, rather than transport inmate patients to outside facilities.
