A cash reward is being offered to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the person or persons who stole a green 2009 Toyota Corolla between 4 and 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, from in front of a residence in the area of Seventh Street and Joy Nevin Avenue in Holbrook.
The car was rolled onto its roof and came to rest on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad tracks on Navajo Blvd., where it was struck by an eastbound train. Police say no one was in the car when it was hit, as the thief or thieves had apparently fled the scene after rolling the vehicle.
The vehicle’s owner said the suspects stole the car after ransacking two other cars in her garage and finding a spare key to the Corolla in one of them.
“We have to catch these criminals before they take something from us that we won’t be able to replace,” said the car’s owner. “They could have killed themselves or someone else. If anyone knows anything, please come forward.” “We have recently seen an increase in residential and vehicle burglaries and thefts from unlocked or open vehicles in Holbrook,” the Holbrook Police Department (HPD) has posted on its Facebook page. The department gives a list of preventative measures the public can follow to prevent these types of auto thefts and burglaries.
