Louise Movine Guffey, 89, passed away on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at her home in Snowflake. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 o’clock tonight (Aug. 23) at Owens Livingston Mortuary in Snowflake. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Burton Baptist Church, with Reverend Matt Gaston officiating. Burial will follow at the Burton Cemetery.
Louise was born in Linden to John and Rhoda Henderson on Aug. 22, 1924.
She worked as an egg candler, sharecropper, ranch hand and at the local Dairy Freeze, as well as a hardware clerk later in life.
Louise was involved in starting the first Baptist Church in Snowflake, and continued to support that church for years, eventually moving back to her home church in Burton.
She enjoyed quilting and hand embroidery, as well as reading and playing canasta with her family.
She was preceded in death by her late husband and love of her life, Irl Guffey, as well as several sisters and one brother.
Survivors include her sister, ArtieBell; her sons, Gerald, Dewey, Andy and Ferron; her daughters, Inella, Arlie (Darlene) and Jean (Mauveen); stepsons Richard and Walter Guffey; stepson Paul Ward; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.Louise Guffey
