The Lady Wildcats of Joseph City are coming off an 18-win season and a spot in the semifinal round of the Division V State Volleyball Tournament. This season, a new coach and only two returning varsity players will have their work cut out to try to match last season’s outcome.
First year coach Sheri Brennan will rely on senior Madison Fields and junior Krista Edwards to help lead her team.
“I am expecting a lot of leadership from these two players and so far they haven’t disappointed me. We have a very young varsity squad, but they are hard workers and are learning fast,” stated Coach Brennan.
Laura Bushman joins Fields as the only other senior. Katelyn Pugh, Lindi Gardner and Taylor Elmer join junior classmate Edwards. Sophomores Chalet Baldwin and Sadie Tuckfield are join on the squad by freshmen Amanda Baldwin and Cera Thompson.
Playing on the junior varsity and freshman teams will be Kaylene Tsosie, Laura Bushman, Alyssa Hutchens, Tricia Bay-Morgan, Meghan Shaw, Kaylee Palmer, Mary Larsen and Shyann Flake.
Assisting Coach Brennan will be Clare Elmer, and volunteer coaches Jane Gardner and Kay Rush.
The Wildcats open their season on Tuesday, Sept. 3, with a match at Show Low.
