Regina “Bennie” Apodaca, 89, of Holbrook peacefully passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, in Winslow. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 o’clock this morning (Sept. 6) at Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church in Holbrook. Interment will follow in the Holbrook Cemetery.
She was born to the late Antonio and Beatriz (Dominguez) Montano in Concho on Nov. 20, 1923.
Bennie lived most of her life in Holbrook, having worked for City Drug and Sprouse Reitz, among other places.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and was involved in the Eucharistic Ministry and the Legion of Mary.
Bennie was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, where she was a past unit president and East District president of Navajo Unit No. 37 in Holbrook. She was also a life member of VFW No. 3076 in Winslow, and a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 2450.
She enjoyed cooking and visiting with friends.
Bennie will be missed by all who had the privilege to call her sister and friend.
Survivors include her three brothers, Roger Moyta, Sosie D. Montano and Ralph Montano; her sister, Emma Maestas; and several grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Apodaca; two sons, Manuel Apodaca and Wilfredo Apodaca; and a daughter, Yolanda Caro Apodaca.
