The Holbrook varsity chess team beat both Tuba City and Sunnyside by scores of 4-1 at the Blue Ridge State Invitational Tournament, but lost matches to Vale and Kingman.
“We had a standout performance by rookie sophomore Tylor Lii’biNaghahi, who played his first tournament, and won three and tied once at the varsity level,” said Coach Daniel Mitchell. “Bryant Martin, another rookie sophomore, won three and lost once in the alternate tournament.”
Next week the Holbrook team will compete in its first region meet of the year, which will be held in Tuba City.
