The Holbrook boys’ cross country team continues to fare well early in the season. Competing at the Ray Wherly Invitational held last Saturday in Prescott, the Roadrunners finished seventh in a field of 29 teams.
Hopi took the team title, followed by Centennial in second place and Brophy in third.
With 228 runners in the race Kyle Chee paced the Birds with a 21st place finish over the 3.1-mile course crossing the line in 17:22. Mark Clark was 29th in 17:32; Triston Zahne, 59th in 18:10; Marcos Clark, 64th in 18:17; Kendrick Nez, 66th in 18:20; Ryan Keyonnie, 106th in 18:35; and Ryan Bia, 148th in 19:39.
Two hundred-fourteen runners competed in the girls’ race. Xavier College Prep took the top team honors, followed by Flagstaff in second and Catalina Foothills in third. Holbrook didn’t have enough runners to qualify a team score.
Miya Tom was the top runner for the Lady Roadrunners, finishing in 83rd place with a time of 18:56. Johanna Tsosie was 147th in 20:36; Raeanna Bahe, 168th in 21:23; LaShaundra Tsosie, 169th in 21:33; Morgan Zahne, 179th in 22:07; and Jayne Sandoval, 181st in 22:31 over the 2.6-mile course.
In the boys’ junior varsity race, Marcel Young placed eighth and Coy Begay was 34th.
In the boys’ novice race, Roy Begay was fourth; Justin Richards, 24th; Keaton Clark, 25th; Weston Williams, 29th; Derrick Joe, 98th; Jarvis Nez, 99th; Kyle Baldwin, 133rd; Garyden Yazzie, 140th; and Jayson Jaylen Johns, 167th.
