The Lady Lobos opened the volleyball season in impressive fashion with wins over Window Rock, Monument Valley and Winslow, but their unbeaten streak came to an end last Thursday when they ran into a very good Safford Lady Bulldog team. Outside hitter Jordan Abalos, who has already committed to a Division I college for next season and her team ended the Lobos’ streak, winning the match three games to none.
Prior to that loss, the Snowflake squad easily took care of Winslow, winning the home match by dominating all three games, 25-8, 25-15 and 25-14.
Tandis Yellowhair led the way at the net with 10 kills, served two aces and had five digs. Kadi Johnson added three kills, an ace and two blocks. Maryssa Tenney helped with 12 assists. Rachelle King had one kill, six aces, a dig and lofted up 16 assists. Aubrey Flake had two kills. Ashtynn Taylor had six kills and Sydney Olsen finished with one kill. Kilee Richards added three kills and a block. Britlee Merrell finished with one kill, two aces and an assist. Emmey Tenney added seven kills, five aces and two digs. Annika Decker helped with two kills. Melissa Eich had three assists. Shayna Austin helped with four digs and Shelby Reidhead had one dig in the win.
The Lobos have a busy week ahead. After hosting Cortez on Tuesday, they will host Mogollon tonight (Sept. 18), then will host an invitational tournament this weekend with more than 10 teams expected to attend.
