Playing on the road at defending champion Seton Catholic presented a huge challenge for the Lobos, but in one of the better games of the night, Snowflake prevailed over the champs, 28-23. Winning the game, which went back and forth for much of the night, moved the Lobos to 3-0 on the season and instantly into the conversation of title contenders for this year. Despite having a small number of seniors, Snowflake has gotten through a difficult three-week stretch of games to begin the season unbeaten.
After falling behind the Sentinels early, the Lobos fought back and took the lead late in the first period. Following a second Seton score, Ty Reidhead connected with Travis Flake with under five minutes remaining in the half, putting Snowflake back on top 14-13. Seton scored late in the half and held a 20-14 lead at the break.
Late in the third Snowflake retook the lead at 21-20 on a six-yard scoring run. That lead vanished with a 42-yard field goal by the Sentinels, giving them a 23-21 advantage. With under four minutes left in the game Reidhead connected with Porter Black for a touchdown, putting the Lobos on top to stay.
Snowflake has now beaten Mingus, Estrella Foothills and Seton Catholic in its first three outings. This week the Lobos will welcome a 2-1 Winslow squad that struggled to get past Round Valley 21-19 on Friday. Winslow has a balanced offense with a big running back and a solid quarterback. As the Lobos have proven thus far in the season, though, they are more than up to the challenge and look to move to 4-0 on the season.
