Mildred Yazzie, 89, loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend, passed away the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, in Winslow. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, at the Faith Assembly of God, located at 311 E. Erie St. in Holbrook. Interment will follow at the Holbrook Cemetery.
She was born July 22, 1924, in White Cone to Bah Brown and John Bridge. Her clan was Totsohnii (Big Water) born for Tachii Nii (Red Running into the Water People).
She lived most of her life in Holbrook. She worked at various restaurants as a cook before moving to Kingman. She returned to make Holbrook her home in the late 1990s.
Survivors include her five children, Jerry (Peggy) Yazzie of Adamana, Roy K. (Carol) Yazzie I of Holbrook; Larry (Sharon) Yazzie of Holbrook, Raymond Begay of Kingman and Darlene Yazzie of Scottsdale; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Bridge and Bah Brown; two daughters, Loretta Littlemen and June Yazzie; one son, Harry Yazzie; two sisters, Edith Yazzie and Vera Begay; and one brother, George Yazzie.
Owens Livingston Mortuary of Holbrook was in charge of the arrangements.Yazzie
