The Lady Roadrunners improved to 2-1 in power point volleyball matches, cruising to an easy 3-0 win over visiting Chinle on Tuesday evening.
Holbrook broke open a 6-6 tie in the first game pulling away to win 25-15. The second game wasn’t close for long either, with the Lady Birds winning 25-12. Game three was a little more competitive up to around the 10-point mark, where Holbrook again opened up a comfortable margin and eventually won the game 25-14.
Tess Baldonado led the team in kills with 14. Teyah Goldtooth added nine; Shandie Demuth, four; Ashley Attakai and Brandi Cline, two each; and Alex Jeffers-Sample and Demi Phaturos, one each.
Demuth led the Roadrunners with three aces, followed by Goldtooth with two, and Jeffers-Sample, Cline, Mariah Cummings and Baldonado, one each.
Demuth was also the leader in assists with 19. Dena Kinlicheenie added seven and Shayna Carlson had three.
Goldtooth led the team on defense with 19 digs. Baldonado added 12; Carlson, six; Demuth, five; Jeffers-Sample, Kinlicheenie and Cummings, three each; Attakai, Phaturos and Cline, two each; and Lauren Silversmith, one.
Baldonado finished with 1.5 blocks, Goldtooth turned away one Chinle attack and Attakai was credited with half a block.
After traveling to Ganado on Thursday, the Holbrook squad will see plenty of action at the Snowflake Invitational. Pool play will be today (Sept. 20) and bracket play will conclude the tournament on Saturday. On Tuesday, Sept. 24, Holbrook plays host to Show Low, followed by a rematch with the Lady Yellowjackets in Lakeside two days later.
