The Holbrook boys’ cross country team continued its solid season with another impressive finish, this time at the Peaks Invitational meet held Saturday in Flagstaff. As a team the Birds placed seventh in a field of 30 teams with 202 points.
Page won the team title, followed by Tuba City and Hopi.
Tuba City’s Anthony Masayeswa won the varsity race with a time of 15:49.
Holbrook’s top finisher was Marcos Clark, who placed 20th with a time of 17:17. Triston Zahne was 22nd just two seconds behind in 17:19. Mark Clark placed 40th in 17:48; Kendrick Nez, 44th in 17:50; Roy Begay, 81st in 18:31; Ryan Keyonnie, 109th in 18:59; and Ryan Bia, 114th in 19:06. Two hundred-eleven runners started the race.
In the girls’ division, Flagstaff won the team title, followed by Page in second and Hopi in third. Holbrook didn’t have enough runners to earn a team score.
Tatiana Gillick of Flagstaff won the event with a time of 18:11.
Miya Tom was Holbrook’s top finisher, placing 82nd in the 187-runner field with a time of 22:35. Johanna Tsosie was 112th in 23:28; Raenna Bahe, 159th in 25:43; and Morgan Zahne 171st in 26:24.
In the boys’ junior varsity race, Marcel Young led Holbrook to fifth place with a 10th place finish in 18:43. Brennan Tsosie was 32nd; Coy Begay, 45th; Weston Williams, 52nd; Derrick Joe, 82nd; Elliot Pete, 83rd; and Kyle Baldwin, 104th. Two hundred and forty runners competed in the 3.1-mile race.
