Snowflake’s soccer squads had a rough time at the Old Pueblo Classic in Tucson over the weekend. Combined, the Lobos were winless in eight matches played.
On Friday the Lady Lobos battled to a 1-1 tie with Round Valley, then fell to St. Johns, 0-2. On Saturday they again earned a tie, this time with Camp Verde. In their final match of the tournament, they fell to Blue Ridge, getting shut out by the Jackets 5-0.
The boys’ team didn’t fare much better. Friday’s match results were a scoreless tie with Camp Verde and a 2-1 loss to Chino Valley. On Saturday the Lobos lost 3-1 to Willcox, then fought to a 1-1 tie with St. Gregory.
The Snowflake boys’ team faced Blue Ridge earlier in the week in a regular season match and played well in a defensive struggle before losing to the Jackets 1-0. The Lobos managed to get seven shots on goal led by Kegan Kay with three, but none found the mark. Allan Perkins played well in goal against a good Blue Ridge team, allowing just the one goal and turning away seven Yellowjacket shot attempts.
This week the boys were slated to play at Holbrook on Tuesday, then travel to Show Low on Thursday, Oct. 10. On Thursday, Oct. 17, they host Round Valley. The Lobos headed into this week’s action with a 3-3 power point record.
After hosting Holbrook on Tuesday, the Lady Lobos will play at St. Johns today (Oct. 9), then host the same Redskin team on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The Lady Lobos are currently 3-4 in power point matches.
