William Wallace Newman, 55, of Holbrook passed away at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at a hospice center in Tucson. Family members were at his side, including Shannon Newman, his spouse, Fiona Kim Newman, his daughter, and Doug Newman, his brother. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, at First Southern Baptist Church in Holbrook. A reception will follow at Holbrook United Methodist Church.
He was born on Dec. 3, 1957, and raised in Holbrook by his parents, Ezekiel B. Newman and Nora B. Newman, now deceased.
William graduated from Holbrook High School, and received an associate degree from Northland Pioneer College, and a bachelor and master degree from Northern Arizona University.
He was married to Shannon Louise (Zimmerman) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in June 1993.
He taught elementary school in Winslow for 29 years, and taught at NPC as adjunct in Education and English for 25 years.
His interests were many, including architecture, art, books, music, cars and gardening.
Survivors include his daughter, Fiona Kim; spouse, Shannon; and brother, Doug Newman of Aiken, S.C.
