Contaminated gasoline has been recalled from 22 gas stations in Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado after Western Refinery reported a failed gasket allowed water to leak into a petroleum storage tank in Gallup, N.M. The contamination was not detected until after the gasoline had been delivered and purchased by consumers on Oct. 8. Sales were immediately stopped and the contaminated fuel was removed at each location.
The Maverik station in Holbrook was listed as one of the stations affected. Other nearby stations include the Safeway on West Deuce of Clubs, the Mustang Conoco on East Deuce of Clubs and Shell on South White Mountain Road, all in Show Low. Also mentioned was the Mobil station on North Country Club Drive in Flagstaff, and the Shell on Highway 491 and the Giant on South Second Street, both in Gallup. For a full list of stations that were affected go online to http://www.wnr.com/ContactUs.aspx.
A hotline has been established at (877) 511-1012 for customers who purchased fuel at one of those locations on Oct. 8, experienced vehicle problems and have documentation showing the fuel was purchased at one of the listed locations.
