Competing with six other teams at the Alchesay Invitational cross country meet last Friday, the Holbrook boys’ team placed first with 24 team points, followed by Alchesay with 57; Show Low, 74; Globe, 106; Valley Sanders, 121; and Greyhills, 133.
Holbrook was led by Marcos Clark, who finished second in the 40-runner field with a time of 18:26. His brother Mark was close behind in third with a time of 18:42. Kyle Chee placed sixth; Triston Zahne, ninth; Kendrick Nez, 10th; Ryan Bia, 15th; and Ryan Keyonnie, 16th.
In the girls’ varsity race LaShaundra Tsosie paced the Holbrook team, finishing in 10th place with a time of 26:06. Glenda Tsosie was 15th; Morgan Zahne, 16th; Latanya Lano, 17th; Samantha Lister, 22nd; and Daena Bahe, 23rd. Twenty-six runners competed in the race.
Just two schools had enough runners to qualify team scores in the girls’ race. Alchesay was first with 20 points, followed by Holbrook in second with 37.
In the boys’ junior varsity race, Holbrook’s Marcell Young placed first with a time of 19:22. Weston Williams was second; Elliot Pete, fourth; Coy Begay, fifth; Jarvis Nez, sixth; Derrick Joe, seventh; Triston Notah, 12th; Jayden Johns, 17th; and Jayson Puente, 21st. Twenty-five runners competed.
