With the state volleyball tournament drawing near for Holbrook, the Lady Roadrunners are trying to accomplish two things: first, finish in the top 16 to reach the post-season, and second, position themselves as the highest seed possible.
The Holbrook girls drew a split in their past two matches, falling at home to Monument Valley last Saturday, 3-0, then bounced back with a quality road win at Window Rock on Tuesday evening, defeating the Scouts 3-1.
The volleyball seedings are updated daily and with 16 teams qualifying for the state tournament, Holbrook’s win over the Scouts has boosted the Birds to the 11th overall ranking at this point.
Holbrook has one very difficult match left with a long road trip to Tuba City scheduled on Thursday, Oct. 24, as the team is off the rest of this week for fall break. The Warriors are currently ranked seventh with only two losses. Following that Holbrook welcomes in Page for a doubleheader contest on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Sand Devils are sitting in the 27th ranked position, meaning Holbrook needs to win both matches. The Roadrunners’ final two matches will be at home against Winslow on Oct. 29 and they will wrap up the regular season at Joseph City on Oct. 30.
Their recent win over Window Rock may have been the boost they needed to ensure a state playoff bid. Now they need to focus on getting seeded as high as possible in the bracket.
