Hosting 31 schools at Hidden Cove Golf Course for the Holbrook Invitational cross country meet held last Friday, the Roadrunners finished in fifth place in the boys’ division and in 15th in the girls’ competition.
Tuba City took the top four individual places and easily claimed first place in the boys’ team standings with 17 points. Hopi finished second with 91, followed by Chinle with 124, Winslow with 135 and Holbrook with 180. Twenty full teams competed in the race with 145 individual runners.
Albert Fuller of Tuba City won the race with a time of 16:58.
Holbrook’s top runner was Mark Clark, who placed 19th with a time of 18:08. Kyle Chee finished 26th in 18:20; followed by Triston Zahne, 32nd in 18:25; Marcos Clark, 42nd in 18:41; Kendrick Nez, 67th in 19:20; Roy Begay, 87th in 19:42; and Ryan Keyonnie, 98th in 20:07.
Scottsdale Prep Academy took first place in the varsity girls’ team competition with 87 points. Hopi and Northland Prep tied for second with 109, Ganado was fourth with 123 and Tuba City finished fifth with 124. Holbrook finished 15th with 432 points. Sixteen teams and 127 runners competed in the race.
Ganado’s Daangoiina Haven crossed the line first with a time of 19:53.
Holbrook’s top runner was Glenda Tsosie, who finished 87th with a time of 25:01. Johannah Tsosie was 91st in 25:15; followed by LaShaundra Tsosie, 92nd in 25:16; Miya Tom, 105th in 26:04; Morgan Zahne, 107th in 26:07; Latanya Lano, 116th in 28:17; and Jayne Sandoval, 117th in 28:39.
In the boys’ junior varsity race, Marcel Young led the Holbrook squad, placing ninth with a time of 18:59; followed by Ryan Bia, 19th in 20:00; Weston Williams, 35th in 20:39; Elliot Pete, 48th in 21:08; Tristan Notah, 63rd in 21:38; Coy Begay, 68th in 21:50; Derrick Joe, 71st in 21:52; Jarvis Nez, 72nd in 21:56; Jayden Johns, 97th in 23:16; and Jayson Puente, 128th in 27:12. One hundred and thirty-nine runners competed in the race.
In the girls’ junior varsity race, Holbrook’s Daena Bahe was 64th with a time of 28:06 and Samantha Lister was 81st with a time of 29:27.
Holbrook will host the sectional qualifying meets for Divisions III and division IV on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Hidden Cove. The top three teams and top 30 individual runners will qualify for the state meet scheduled on Saturday, Nov. 9, in Cave Creek.
