The season has come to a conclusion for both Holbrook soccer squads.
The Lady Roadrunners failed to win a match this year under first year coach Beth Baloo, finishing with an 0-11 mark. With a new coach, building takes time, especially for a program which has struggled mightily for some time. With a solid off-season and plenty of work in the summer Holbrook has nowhere to go but up next season.
The boys’ team played well at times, but struggled to close out matches this year, finishing with an overall power point record of 2-7-3. The Roadrunners won just two of their final 10 matches, with three of those matches ending in ties.
The positive thing for Coach Dave Wright is that his team had just one senior this year and will return a roster full of experienced players for next year.
Holbrook’s final match of the year was a 4-0 loss to Show Low last Tuesday. In that match the Birds attempted 18 shots on goal, but came up empty. Freshman goalie Jimmy Saxton gave up four goals, but turned away 13 other Cougar tries.
