The Holbrook volleyball squad fell to highly ranked Tuba City last Thursday, but bounced back to sweep both matches of a home doubleheader with Page last Saturday afternoon.
The road loss to the Lady Warriors saw the Lady Roadrunners struggle in the first game, losing it 25-12, but they played well in the second, building a 24-21 lead before succumbing late and falling 25-27. They once again played well in game three, leading it 21-20 before dropping the game 25-21 and the match.
Holbrook struggled at the net against the Warriors, collecting only 22 total kills led by Tess Baldonado with 13. She also had 12 digs. Teyah Goldtooth finished with four kills and 16 digs. Shandie Demuth helped with 15 assists and had 13 digs. Dena Kinlicheenie added four assists.
Holbrook easily cruised past Page in the first match, winning it 3-0 in under an hour. Page really had no answer for Tess Baldonado at the net. The Lady Birds dominated the second match at the net, as well, led by Baldonado with 17 kills. Alex Jeffers-Sample added seven kills, Terrilyn Lester had six and Mariah Cummings had four. Demuth played well again with 22 assists and led the team with eight digs.
After hosting Winslow on Senior Night on Tuesday, the Roadrunners will wrap up the regular season at Joseph City tonight (Oct. 30). Seniors Tess Baldonado and Shandie Demuth will be honored on Tuesday when they play their final home volleyball game.
Holbrook entered the week ranked 13th in the power point standings. They should be able to move up the ladder one or two spots with a pair of wins to close out the season. They will certainly qualify for the final field of 16, which play at the state tournament scheduled on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8 and 9, in Prescott Valley.
