Snowflake has been chasing Safford in the power point rankings for most of the volleyball season and last week finally caught the Lady Bulldogs with wins over Payson and Coconino.
The Lady Lobos won at Payson with ease on Tuesday, 3-0, then also shut out Coconino in three games on Thursday, winning 25-21, 25-19 and 25-13. After closing out the regular season at home on Tuesday against Show Low, they will have to wait and see if their top ranking holds up, earning them the number one seed in the state tournament, which will be played in Prescott Valley.
Heading into this week the Lobos were No. 1 and Safford fell to No. 2 with each team posting 15-1 records. Snowflake’s only loss, however, was to Safford in a match played way back in mid-September. The final 16 teams should be set in the state bracket, which should be announced Friday morning, Nov. 1.
