The Taylor General Plan was originally scheduled to be updated by December, and Building Official Allen Davis gave the town council an update on the project Oct. 23.
Davis joined the town staff three months ago. He dug in and began working with the Planning and Zoning Committee, and the Planning and Zoning Commission, and found that Taylor is under a deadline to get the 10-year plan done by December.
“Looking at that and the procedures we were following at the time…we slow down on the zoning code and zoning amendments, and try and get the general plan passed, approved and updated,” said Davis.
He said they should approach zoning code in a more systematic manner, because, “It’s the law that everybody has to follow, and the general plan is the law that every developer has to follow.”
Davis said the logical step was to get the general plan updated, maps updated, statistics updated and get the plan approved to meet the deadlines. He said he did get a one-month extension because they have to follow a process for a hearing, and at the next scheduled election voters must approve the plan.
Council members were emailed a copy of the general plan for their review.
“It looks like you put a lot of work into it, and it looks like it’s going to be a good thing,” said Mayor Fay Hatch.
