Gabrielle Stacey, a former star athlete at Winslow High School, has been selected to play for the University of New Mexico Lobos softball team in the infielder/utility position.
Stacey, a 2011 graduate of WHS, has already played two seasons at the College of Southern Idaho, helping that team earn Scenic West Conference Region Runner-Up in 2012 and 2013, and become conference champions in 2013.
She is also a successful academic, earning the National Scholar Athlete Team Award both this year and the year before, and graduating with an Associate of Arts Degree this year.
While attending WHS Stacey was a star athlete playing softball under Coach Becky Barris, and helped the Lady Bulldogs win the 3A State Championship in softball, as well as the Gracie Haught Softball Tournament in 2010. The Bulldogs were 3A North Region champs four years in a row (2008-11) and gold medalists in the North American Indigenous Games (Canada) in 2008.
Stacey is the daughter of Frank and Debra Stacey of Flagstaff.
