Nellie Hoover, 86, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 16 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Holbrook. Burial followed at the Holbrook Cemetery.
She was born on March 27, 1927, in White Cone, Arizona to Slim and Nora Nez Brown.
Mrs. Hoover was a dedicated housewife and rancher. She raised some of her children in Daggett, Calif., and thereafter became a housewife in White Cone.
Nellie was a member of the Community Development Committee in White Cone.
After the passing of her husband, Herbert Hoover Sr., she became a rancher.
Nellie loved watching wrestling on TV and was a huge Denver Broncos fan.
Survivors include six children, Ruth Chatter of White Cone, Herbert Hoover Jr. of Phoenix, Carlson Hoover of Kirtland, N.M., Moran Pferdeort of Show Low, Walter Hoover of Phoenix and Judy Lee of White Cone; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Brown, Mamie Begay and Nancy Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Slim and Nora Brown; her husband, Herbert Hoover Sr.; a daughter, Carolyn Hoover; three grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Browing; and two brothers, Lester Brown and Paul Brown.
Owens Livingston Mortuary of Holbrook was in charge of the arrangements.
