The Lady Wildcats have pushed their season mark to 8-2, thanks to picking up four wins last week, all in games played at home in Joseph City.
The Cats opened the week against St. Johns on Tuesday with a 38-31 win over the Redskins. Krista Edwards and Madison Fields combined for 23 of those points, with Edwards netting 12. Katelyn Pugh added 5; Sierra Rogers, 4; Brooke Baldwin and Lindi Gardner, 3 each; and Amanda Baldwin, 1.
On Friday St. Michaels came to town and if not for a big second quarter from the Wildcats, may have left with a win. Joseph City rallied in the second period to take a four-point halftime lead. That was enough to hold off the Cardinals down the stretch as the Cats won 56-54. Fields led the way with 21 points, followed by Edwards with 13; Pugh, 10; Brooke Baldwin, 8; and Sadie Tuckfield and Gardner, 2 each.
Playing the first of two varsity games on Saturday, the Wildcats used a huge first period to take down Fredonia 60-45. Joseph City jumped out of the gates to build a commanding 24-2 lead after the opening eight minutes. Kaylene Tsosie and Fields shared scoring honors with 12 points each. Rogers and Laura Bushman had 6 each; Gardner and Tayler Elmer, 4 each; and Mary Larsen, 2.
In their second game on Saturday the Wildcats started both halves with strong efforts. They outscored Fredonia 15-2 in the first and again 20-3 in the third. That was more than enough to help secure the 47-11 win. Fields netted 12 points; Edwards, 11; Pugh 6; Brooke Baldwin, 5; Tsosie, 4; Bushman and Elmer, 3 each; Amanda Baldwin, 2; and Gardner, 1.
After playing at Round Valley on Tuesday, the Wildcats will travel to Rough Rock today (Dec. 18). On Thursday, Dec. 19, they will face Chinle in the opening round of the Winslow Winter Classic. Following that tournament, they will be off until the first week of January.
