Anita Lynn Tomlin, 55, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, after a valiant battle with cancer. A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Holbrook Cemetery. Following the service, refreshments will be served at the Holbrook Senior Center, located at 216 E. Joy Nevin Ave.
Born on March 12, 1958, in Ypsilanti, Mich., Anita moved with her family to Arizona in August 1969, where she attended local area schools, graduating from McClintock High School in 1976.
She loved the Lord and dedicated her life to raising her children. She moved to the Holbrook area in February 1989, where she encouraged her children to complete their high school education and attend college. For almost 25 years, she lived on the land and enjoyed building the property.
She loved to crochet. Some of her creations won first place at Navajo County Fairs and Arizona State Fairs.
Anita graduated from a correspondence course in medical terminology/billing in 2011.
After a spinal injury, she continued to do what she could for many years until her diagnosis of cancer in June 2013.
Anita was a kind, caring, person, ready to help anyone at any time. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her mother, Janet Lindvall; her father, Richard Shingledecker; her brother, Rick; three sisters, Julie Wiessner, Aretta Waters and Theresa Shingledecker; four children, Erin Hamilton, Andrea Speers, Meghan Heberlie and Christopher Cloud; and seven grandchildren.
Owens Livingston Mortuary of Holbrook was in charge of the arrangements.
