Joe Billie, 72, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, in Flagstaff. A graveside service was held Dec. 23 at the family plot in Castle Butte.
He was born Oct. 10, 1941, in Castle Butte.
Joe was a rancher in his younger years at local northern Arizona ranches, and in northern states like Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. He was a father who earned a living by silversmithing and as a heavy equipment operator for Navajo Nation Water Resources for 20 years until he retired. He also competed in AIRCA, and many rodeos and jackpot roping.
Other hobbies included spending time with his wife, and he enjoyed all her good cooking. He spent 44 years as a great companion to his wife Kathy. Joe was a wonderful father and family man.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Billie; his son, Kahn Billie; his daughter, Blessing Billie and his grandmother, Evalee Billie.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Leon Billie and Ryan Billie.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
