Playing in their final regular season game prior to the holiday break, the Lady Wildcats got a huge performance from Madison Fields, but still came up just short against the Round Valley Lady Elks on Dec. 17 in Eagar.
Both teams started slowly, finishing the first period knotted at nine apiece. In the second quarter each team shot better, but the Elks built a five-point lead. Round Valley extended that lead to double digits heading to the fourth, where Joseph City battled to post 20 points but came up just short in its comeback bid. The Elks won the contest, 63-56.
Fields did her part, finishing with a game high 28 points, including a trio of three-point bombs. Katelyn Pugh added 12, followed by Krista Edwards with 11; Brooke Baldwin, 3; and Lindi Gardner, 2.
Following the loss to Round Valley, the Wildcats bounced back the following night with a 74-56 win over Rough Rock.
Joseph City headed into the holiday break with an overall mark of 9-3. The Cats will return to regular season play on Tuesday, Jan. 7, with a trip to face Northland Prep in Flagstaff. On Jan. 14 they will play rival Mogollon in Heber.
