The Roadrunners improved their season mark to 7-5 with a 57-41 win over visiting Ganado on Dec. 19.
The Birds grabbed the upper hand early, outscoring the Hornets by eight in the first period. Kyle Chee posted six points and Andon Hatch netted five in the opening period.
In the second a pair of threes from Hatch enabled Holbrook to keep pace and take a 29-21 halftime lead.
Seven more points from Chee in the third quarter edged Holbrook’s cushion to 10.
In the final period the Birds again outscored the Hornets on their way to a 16-point win.
Chee led Holbrook with 24 points, followed by Hatch with 11; Marlin Martin, 8; Abrian Dickson, 5; Marcel Young, 4; Casey Nelson, 3; and Kendrick Nez, 2. The
Roadrunners made six three-point shots, half of which came from Hatch. They went 11 for 14 at the line.
The Hornets were led by Chad Mescal with 14 points, followed by Laine Salabye with 12; Kent Bluehouse, 6; Micheas Pineda, 3; and Clay Gishey, Ryan Descheenie and Taylor Benally, with 2 each.
Ganado made nine of 12 free throws and hit a pair of treys.
Holbrook opened the Chinle Holiday Tournament Thursday with a game against Tuba City. That tournament wraps up on Saturday, Dec. 28. The Birds return to regular season play on Tuesday, Jan. 7, when they host Snowflake.
