The Tuba City Warriors won the boy’s Tournament of Champions in Chinle on the last week of 2013. The final game was a 64-60 win over the Chinle Wildcats. Previously, the Warriors defeated the Winslow Bulldogs in a nail biter, 66-65, and the Holbrook Roadrunners, 69-65.
Chinle finished second, having defeated the Monument Valley Mustangs 79-65 and the Ganado Hornets 55-18. Winslow finished third, defeating the Monument Valley Mustangs 64-54 in the third place game and the Page Sand Devils 67-42 in their first game.
Page won the consolation championship, defeating Window Rock 78-34. The Sand Devils had earlier defeated Holbrook 54-46.
In other games, Window Rock had defeated Ganado 42-40 and Monument Valley defeated Window Rock 52-51.
The Window Rock Lady Scouts won the girls’ Tournament of Champions with a 36-29 victory over the Chinle Lady Wildcats. Earlier they had defeated the Monument Valley Lady Mustangs 67-53 and the Tuba City Lady Warriors 52-45. Chinle defeated the Ganado Lady Hornets 57-45 and the Page Lady Sand Devils 52-45.
Page defeated Tuba City 61-52 for third place and Monument Valley defeated Ganado 63-50 for the consolation championship.
The boys’ All-Tournament Team consisted of Christian Begody and Tristan Begay of Tuba City, Kyle Chee of Holbrook, Milland Thomas and Stevin Nelson of Winslow, Ty Phillips and Brayton Begay of Monument Valley, and Kevin Yazzie and Wyatt Tuni of Chinle.
The girls’ All-Tournament Team included Naomi Klah and Shaniya Betsoi of Window Rock, Mykesha Todecheene and Tate Tsinigine of Tuba City, Ember Sloan of Page, Ohiyah Shirley of Monument Valley, and Lynniah Curley and Kristen Begay of Chinle.
