Charges have been handed down against an Indian Wells man accused of causing an accident in Holbrook last summer that resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to her family members.
Lee Belin, 38, has been booked into the Navajo County Jail, charged with DUI, vehicular manslaughter, three counts of aggravated assault and five counts of endangerment in connection with an accident that occurred on July 17, 2013. At approximately 10:30 a.m. that day, Belin was driving north on Navajo Blvd. when he drifted into a southbound lane and struck another vehicle in which three adults, including a 65-year-old man, a physically handicapped 63-year-old woman and their 18-year-old granddaughter, all of Texas, were traveling.
All individuals involved in the accident sustained injuries, with the 63-year-old woman eventually dying from the injuries she sustained in the crash.
According to Detective Mario Parra of the Holbrook Police Department, the suspect had been up all night and had been drinking before the accident took place.
A story on the arrest of Lee Belin in connection with a crash that occurred in July 2013 published in the Jan. 8 edition of The Tribune-News contained an error. In that story it was stated that the suspect had been up all night drinking before the accident took place. The statement should have been that the suspect had been up all night and had been drinking. We apologize for any problems this error may have caused.
