Work has started on Holbrook’s new Tractor Supply store and the business should be ready to open by early to mid-March, according to Jason Hunt, superintendent for Buffalo Construction Inc.
According to Hunt, Buffalo Construction began remodeling the old Bashas’ store for the new Tractor Supply on Dec. 30.
“We got a slow start because of the holidays,” said Hunt. He noted that once his full crew of 15 electricians, plumbers, demolition workers and framers arrives, work would proceed at a faster pace.
“We should be in full swing by next week,” Hunt said. “My turnover date is Feb. 17.”
Hunt said he could not speak for Tractor Supply, but that in his experience, the national chain usually opens a new store about two to three weeks after construction is completed.
“Tractor Supply needs to train their employees and get the store ready to open,” said Hunt. He said the Holbrook project is the fifth Tractor Supply store he has built during the past year as the chain expands across the country.
“My first one was in Indiana, my second was in Florida and my third one was in North Carolina,” Hunt said. “My fourth one was in Kingman and now I’m on this one in Holbrook.”
“Some of the HVAC work has already been done,” Hunt said of the local project. He added that his crew would be redoing the electrical system and the plumbing in the 26,600-square foot space. The existing bathrooms will remain in place, as will the drop ceiling and lighting fixtures.
Holbrook City Manager Ray Alley confirmed that Buffalo Construction has paid the fee and that a permit has been issued to the firm to carry out the work.
A help wanted ad placed in The Tribune-News touts Tractor Supply as “a $5 billion growth company and one of the nation’s fastest growing retail organizations.”
On the company website, Tractor Supply Company describes itself as “the leading retail farm and ranch store brand in America.” It was founded in 1938 as a mail order tractor parts business, and now owns and operates more than 1,200 stores in 48 states.
The help wanted ad seeks workers for the Holbrook store, including assistant managers, team leaders, team members and receivers. Horse owners, farmers, ranchers and welders are encouraged to apply.
