Frances Medina, 85, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, as she was surrounded by the people she loved most, her family. Holy Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. today (Jan. 10), followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Madre De Dios Catholic Church in Winslow with Father Jeffrey King as celebrant. Interment will be at Desert View Cemetery in Winslow.
She was born July 17, 1928, in Winslow to Ofelia and Roman Baca.
Frances married the love of her life, Joe Medina Sr., and they have been happily married for 63 years.
Joe and Frances lived in Cottonwood and Ajo for many years as they raised their four beautiful children, until they moved “home” to Winslow.
Frances held many things close to her heart, especially family and church. She sang in the church choir and had an amazing, beautiful voice.
She loved the “tiki tiki,” camping, bingo, cooking, and watching sports with her husband and children. She especially loved the Dallas Cowboys, a household favorite she shared with her husband, children and grandchildren.
Frances loved to help those in need who were close to her.
Our beautiful angel will be greatly missed by those survived by her, including her husband of 63 years, Joe Medina Sr.; her best friend “Lucky”; three sons, Joe (Charlotte) Medina, Ernie (Jennifer) Medina and Bobby (Debbie) Medina; 10 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lorenzo Baca; two sisters, Theresa Szewc and Lola Guiterez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Viola Montoya; five brothers, Pete, Freddy, Thache, Tony and Raymond Baca; and two sisters Paula and Vele.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
