Joseph City High School will host its 43rd annual invitational wrestling tournament today and Saturday (Jan. 10 and 11). The tourney is scheduled to begin at 1:30 this afternoon. Session Two will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning and a Gold Medal Championship Round will follow at approximately 3:30 p.m. Seventeen teams will be represented at the tournament with teams coming from all over the state of Arizona, including Antelope, Bourgade, Flagstaff, Hopi, Joseph City, Kingman, Lee Williams, Many Farms, Northland Prep, Pima, Pinnacle, Piñon, Red Mesa, Shonto Prep, Valley Sanders, Valley Lutheran and Yuma high schools.
This year’s event is a team tournament with each team wrestling seven dual meets. At the close of the Saturday morning’s session, a short seeding meeting will be held to determine the top six wrestlers in each weight class who will be wrestling in the championship round for medals. Finalists will be determined by their record during the dual meet portion of the tournament.
Admission is $6 per day. JCHS school activity cards and AIA passes will be accepted.
