William Lloyd Stock, 75, died Monday evening, Jan. 20, 2014, in Flagstaff with his children at his side following a two-year bout with cancer. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Downtown Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 300 N. 11th St. in Show Low, where visitation will begin one hour prior. The concluding service with military honors will immediately follow at the Show Low Cemetery.
He was known as “Moose” to many, a nickname given to him by his father. He was born on Dec. 14, 1938, in Show Low to the late James Delbert and Thora (Penrod) Stock.
Lloyd loved his country. He bravely served in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed on Midway Island.
Following his honorable discharge from the military he returned to his native Show Low and began a successful career in construction. He owned Stock Construction. The last several years he worked grading and maintaining roads in Timberland Acres, where everybody knew him.
Lloyd was a lifetime resident of Show Low and was elected mayor of Show Low for the 1970-72 term.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors and, outside of his family, horses were his whole world. Lloyd competed in many rodeos over the years where he won many of the roping events.
His friendship and gentle smile will be missed by anyone who has had the privilege to call him friend, brother, Dad or Grandpa.
Survivors include his three children, Dinah Stock Esparza, Bill Stock and James “Ryan” Stock, all of Show Low; three brothers, Jimmy (Rochelle) Stock of Farmington, N.M., Dallas (Ginny) Stock of Taylor and John Stock of Winslow; 10 grandchildren, Josh Esparza, Cory Esparza, Brittany Esparza, Kyle Esparza, Frank Esparza, Tanner Esparza, Kayla Stock, Paige Stock, Shania Stock and Delanie Stock.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Corbyn Trigg Esparza.
