Benjamin Yazzie Jr., 39, was sentenced to 6.5 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections on Jan. 15 after pleading guilty to manslaughter in Navajo County Superior Court for the death of Crystal Marie King, 32, of Winslow.
In March 2012, Winslow police officers discovered King’s unresponsive body in a home on West Oak Street after a woman was reported to be screaming at that residence.
According to the investigation, King, Yazzie and another individual were drinking when Yazzie began striking and kicking King, causing her death.
Yazzie will serve 6.5 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections, with credit for 659 days served, to be followed by a term of community supervision equal to one day for every seven days served. He was ordered to make restitution in the amount of $1,065.
Yazzie was sentenced by Judge John Lamb. He was represented by public defender Bruce W. Griffen. Deputy County Attorney Joel Ruechel prosecuted the case.
