The Lady Roadrunners dropped their road game at Snowflake Tuesday evening by a final score of 41-34.
Holbrook played sluggish on offense in the first half, managing to net only 14 points through the first two periods and trailed by eight at the half. In the third quarter Holbrook caused some Snowflake turnovers with pressure, but still couldn’t get points out of those and trailed 27-22 heading into the fourth.
In the final period the Roadrunners took a two-point lead, but too many missed scoring chances and some late game turnovers allowed Snowflake to move back in front and secure the win.
“We are really struggling right now as a team. We need to get things turned around quickly if we have any hope to advance very far in the post season,” said Coach Greg Perkins. “Teyah (Goldtooth) scored well, but we need to have more production from everyone on the floor to have a chance to win. Give Snowflake credit, though, they earned the win.”
Goldtooth led all scorers, finishing with 23 of Holbrook’s 34 points. Rochelle Nez added 4; Shandie Demuth, 3; and Cheyenne Lester and Adriana Monroe, 2 each.
Jessica Neff led the Lady Lobos with 14, followed by Marisa Godfrey with 12; Tycee Coplan, 6; Kadi Johnson, 5; Annika Decker, 2; and Courtney Baldwin and Macie Rawlins, 1 each.
Snowflake made 10 of 18 free throws and hit one three-point shot.
Holbrook converted seven of 11 from the line and hit 3 treys, all by Goldtooth.
With the loss Holbrook falls to 20-8 overall and 12-5 in power point games, and will certainly drop in the overall rankings. The Roadrunners will host Alchesay tonight (Feb. 7) in their final regular season game. They will be playing in the sectional tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Show Low against either Alchesay or Snowflake.
