John Andrew Hill left us on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, to meet with loved ones in Heaven. His life will be celebrated at services set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1825 N. Alvernon Way in Tucson. Internment will follow at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S. Park Ave.
John was born in Holbrook on Dec. 1, 1962.
He graduated from Holbrook High School and continued his education at the University of Arizona, graduating with a degree in architecture.
John married Elena Chavez in May 1987. The first five years of their marriage were spent in New Hampshire, moving back to Tucson in 1992.
He was a devout Christian and an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Tucson, including working with youth, the AWANA program and Little League baseball. John and his wife made several mission trips to Venezuela. John and his son Nathan made a mission trip to Panama, and John and his son Josiah went on a mission trip to Belize.
After working for several different architecture firms, John was employed by Pima County as its project architect. During his years in Tucson, he helped design the restoration of the Fox Theater in Tucson, the Trico Electrical Co-op headquarters in Marana, and, more recently, the Pima County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
Survivors include his wife, Elena; three children, Nathan (Victoria), Emma (Joshua) Ferrara and Josiah; one grandson, Nikolai; his mother, Finetta; three brothers, Robert (Heather), Jeff (Katie) and Dan; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in Heaven by his father, Robert.
