The Lady Wildcats earned themselves the No. 1 seed in the Division IV sectional tournament, which got underway Tuesday afternoon in Miami. Joseph City’s 16-2 power point mark put the squad in the top spot in the section and ranked 11th overall in the Division IV state standings. As the top seed the Wildcats were to play the same Ray team they defeated in their final regular season game on Friday.
In that game played at Ray, the Wildcats built a 14-point lead over the Lady Bearcats in the first half, then kept that margin throughout the second half in the 57-42 win.
Madison Fields led the way in scoring with 20 points. Krista Edwards added 16; Lindi Gardner, 10; Brooke Baldwin, 8; and Katelyn Pugh, 3.
If the Wildcats get past Ray in the semifinal round, they will face either No. 3 St. Johns or No. 2 Ft. Thomas in the sectional championship game at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Miami High School.
Joseph City finished the regular season with an impressive 19-4 overall record.
The Division IV state tournament gets underway on Friday, Feb. 21, at sites yet to be determined.
