The Lobos made the most of their three-game home stand in the final week of the regular season, winning all three and moving themselves into the No. 2 spot in the power point standings heading into the sectional tournament.
Snowflake started the week hosting Holbrook on Tuesday. The Lobos jumped on top of the Roadrunners early and never looked back, winning handily, 54-34.
Rick Shumway led the way with 17, followed by Dallin Fusselman with 8; Luke Lewis and Kurt Wood, 6 each; Jordan Gardner, 5; Kegan Kay and Ty Reidhead, 4 each; and Keegan Bjornn and Travis Flake, 2 each.
Thursday night was a different opponent, but the same outcome as the Lobos defeated visiting Show Low, 58-38. A four-point first period lead led to an eight-point halftime cushion. Snowflake took command of the game in the third period, pouring in 22 points while giving up only 10.
Shumway again played well, sharing scoring honors with Kegan Kay with 15 points each. Flake added 8; Fusselman, 6; Wood, 5; Gardner, Porter Black, Reidhead, and Everett Lunt, 2 each; and Luke Lewis, 1.
On Friday night the Lobos took on highly ranked Winslow and came away with a 63-53 win on Senior Night. Both teams scored well early, ending the opening period knotted at 17-17. In the second Snowflake held the upper hand by six, then again played well coming out of the locker room, winning the third and building a double-digit lead. Winslow won the fourth, but Snowflake won the game.
Shumway wrapped up a solid week’s performance scoring 17. Fusselman added 16. Lewis had 13 with 10 boards. Wood scored 11, and Kay, Reidhead and Flake each hit for 2.
The Lobos finished the regular season with an overall mark of 25-4 and were 17-1 in the power point rankings, placing them second overall heading into the sectional tournament. As the No. 1 seed in the sectional tournament they will face No. 4 Show Low at 7 o’clock tonight (Feb. 12) in Show Low. With a win they would advance to the title game to face either No. 2 Winslow or No. 3 Alchesay on Saturday night. The state tournament gets underway on Tuesday, Feb. 18, for the boys teams in Division III and the girls first round of state action will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
