The Lady Wildcats of Joseph City made it into the second round of the Division IV state tournament before their season came to a close at the hands of Gilbert Christian.
Thirteenth seeded Joseph City took down No. 20 Rock Point in their opening round game played Friday night at Yavapai Community College in Prescott. The Wildcats turned a commanding 32-9 halftime lead into a comfortable 59-28 win to advance to the second round.
Madison Fields led the scoring for Joseph City with 26 points. Krista Edwards added 15; Lindi Gardner, 6; Sierra Rogers, 4; Brooke Baldwin, 3; Amanda Baldwin, 2; and Taylor Elmer, 1.
As good as Friday’s game was, Saturday’s was just the opposite. Gilbert Christian came in with a big size advantage and quick guard play, which the Lady Knights used to their advantage. They led the Cats 47-17 at the half.
That margin stayed the same in the second half as the Wildcats closed out their season with a 71-41 loss in the second round of the state tournament, also played at Yavapai Community College.
The season ending loss left the Wildcats with an impressive season mark of 21-6.
